The Main Number — 8×42, 10×42, 8×32

The two numbers separated by × are the fundamentals. The first is magnification. The second is the objective lens diameter in millimetres — the large front lenses that gather light. Larger = brighter, especially in low light. 42mm is full-size standard. 32mm is mid-compact. 25mm is pocket.
